The Burden of the Opening Lead

Opening leads are widely recognised as one of the trickiest elements of bridge. The opening leader is at a strong disadvantage, because the information available at that time is severely limited. Poor opening leads perhaps cost more tricks than any other aspect of the game.

The lesson will present practical ideas in relation to selecting an effective opening lead.  It will show you how to take advantage of the information in the auction and find a lead which is most likely to inflict damage on the opposition or, alternatively, how to choose a lead which is least likely to yield a cheap trick.
